McKinley

McKinley is very different from Jackson. She is very quiet (well sort of). She seems to know already she is a girl and knows how to get Grandma to do what she wants. I think she is such a sweetie and lets me hold her a lot.

Cookies

Jackson seems to have taken to the kitchen. He often helps Sara when fixing meals and baking. Jackson likes to decorate cakes and cookies. So this past weekend he helped me decorate some cookies. He really enjoyed the decorating however, I think he enjoyed eating the cookies just a bit more!

Who are the 'bigger' kids?

A couple weeks ago Sara, Travis and the kids were in town. Sara and I took the kids to Wine Country Gardens. There is a playground there and the kids loved the slide. So I went to Craigs List and found a Little Tykes slide for them, one more their size. It can be used indoors or outside. The slide is one of their Christmas presents. This past Saturday the kids were here again. We took them outside to play and I just couldn't resist dragging out their slide.
McKinley squealed when she saw it. She knew exactly what to do. She still needed help climbing the steps, but loved it. When Jackson came out, we had to go over the rules of taking turns, but both kids loved it. I loved seeing them play on the slide, then inventing new games to play on it. McKinley wanted to do the reverse and go up the slide instead of down it. Jackson wanted his cars to have a turn going down and coming up. It was all smiles, including me.

Rental house yard- Clover

The last two days Jim & I have been working on a rental house. Somehow or the other, he ends up working inside and I end up working outside. I like working outside, so I really don't mind.
These two days have been really nice and I have enjoyed working in the overgrown yard of Clover. (We call all our rentals by their street name.) The renters were there for 7 years.
They planted lots of perenials, including herbs, hostas and bushes. I guess they didn't do a lot this summer since they knew they were moving. Today, I had to buy a new weed eater. I killed my two in the past two days. They were old weed eaters, probably close to 20 years old. Both were on their last leg and almost out of "string." I could have gotten one to work again, but when I went to buy string - they do not make that kind of cog and string anymore. So I found, a new by Black and Decker. It worked well and everytime I hit a big limb hidden in the entanglement of overgrown grass the string broke and it was easy to take that little cog out and pull out more string. Something improved and is easier to use instead of getting more complicated. I like the idea someone actually made it easier to use an weed whip instead of harder. And working outside for two days was a bonus!!

Why?

My daughter, Sara has a blog. I love reading it. I feel more connected to her and her family.
She puts pictures and stories of what they are doing on it. They live in Kansas and now do not seem so far away. She suggested I start one, too. I thought about it. I work a lot and I don't see or talk to my family near enough. Many times when I think of calling them, it is really late or really early, so if I have this blog, they can read what I'm up to, which is mostly working I two full time jobs, but I manage to take a little time for a social life and time for my husband, cats, and gardening.
